Dogging & Rigging

Logisafe offers the following Nationally Recognised Competencies that Applicants must successfully obtain to be able to conduct Dogging & Rigging.

  Dogging & Rigging:

 

Successful completion of this training and assessment will provide you with the necessary qualification to apply for a High Risk Work licence.
Licences must be applied for online in Qld or at an Australia Post outlet in NSW within 60 days of assessment.
They are issued by the State Regulator (Workplace Health & Safety Qld or SafeWork NSW) and are valid for five years.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course is designed to prepare a person to safely perform the tasks required of a Dogman.

It may be conducted at your premises or a Logisafe venue

DURATION:

Usually 4 days class time + nominal 120 logbook hours.

The usual procedure is:

  • 2 days in class including a machine induction
  • Nominal 120 hours of supervised dogging activities in the work environment - recorded in the logbook provided by Logisafe
  • 1 day revision prior to assessment
  • 1 day assessment

Classroom time can be reduced with the students completing the workbooks in their own time
using comprehensive, easy to follow training notes

COURSE CONSISTS OF:

FORMAL TRAINING (including practical training) which covers:

  • Understanding relevant legislative obligations and duty of care responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare to perform dogging activities
  • The identification and control, of work health and safety issues related to dogging
  • Select and inspect the correct equipment to support the load during lifting 
  • Directing the crane driver during load movement
  • Safely landing the load and derigging slings and accessories
  • Checking all equipment after use

INFORMAL TRAINING (supervised practical training at your workplace):

  • Prior to completing their performance test, students are required to perform a nominal 120 hours of supervised dogging activities in their work environment. This is recorded in the logbook provided by Logisafe.

 ASSESSMENT:

  • Theory examination consisting of 71 questions
  • Written assignment consisting of 6 tasks
  • Performance test consisting of 5 practical exercises

 

If you are performing repetitive lifts with known lift points and weights, with sling techniques established, and the load does not go out of the crane operators’ sight, then this course may be a viable alternative to the Doggers course.

A Licensed Dogger is required if there is a decision required about load weight assessment, selection, inspection or application of slings, or the crane operator requires direction in the movement of the load.

Course Description:

  • Select the correct equipment to support the load during lifting
  • Move the load

 

COURSE CONSISTS OF:

Formal training (including practical training):
(May be conducted at your premises or a Logisafe venue)

 

Theory & practical training: 2-3 days 

1-2 days in class including a machine induction
1 day revision prior to assessment

 

This covers:

  • The planning and preparation for the performance of tasks associated with lifting operations
  • The identification and control, of occupational health and safety issues related to lifting operations and associated equipment
  • Understanding relevant legislative obligations and duty of care responsibilities belonging to lifting operations and associated equipment use
  • The inspection and assembly of lifting gear to Australian Standards
  • The conduct of lifting operations in accordance with relevant standards, legislative requirements and industry codes of practice

 

Informal training (supervised practical training at your workplace):

  • Prior to completing their performance test, students are required to perform a nominal 20 hours of supervised lifting operations activities in their work environment. This is recorded in the logbook provided by Logisafe.

 

Assessment - 1 day:

  • Theory examination consisting of 42 questions
  • Performance test consisting of 6 practical exercises

 

Dogging is a prerequisite for Basic Rigging.

Successful completion of this training and assessment will provide you with the necessary qualification to apply for a High Risk Work Licence.
Licences must be applied for at an Australia Post outlet within 60 days of assessment.
They are issued by the State Regulator (Workplace Health & Safety Qld or NSW WorkCover) and are valid for five years.

Prerequisites

Persons wishing to complete the Basic Rigging course must already hold a Licence to Perform Dogging.

It may be conducted at your premises or a Logisafe venue

  • Nominal 120 hours of supervised basic rigging activities in the work environment - recorded in the logbook provided by Logisafe
  • 1 day revision prior to assessment
  • 1 day assessment

COURSE CONSISTS OF:

FORMAL TRAINING (including practical training) which covers:

  • Understanding relevant legislative obligations and duty of care responsibilities
  • Plan and prepare to perform basic rigging activities
  • The identification and control, of work health and safety issues related to basic rigging
  • Select and inspect the correct equipment to perform basic rigging
  • Safely moving loads or erecting and dismantling structures in accordance with legislative and industry standards and codes

INFORMAL TRAINING (supervised practical training at your workplace):

  • Prior to completing their performance test, students are required to perform a nominal 120 hours of supervised basic rigging activities in their work environment. This is recorded in the logbook provided by Logisafe.

 ASSESSMENT:

  • Theory examination consisting of 67 questions
  • Written assignment consisting of 5 tasks
  • Performance test consisting of 10 practical exercises

 

 

 

Basic Rigging is a prerequisite for Intermediate Rigging.

Successful completion of this training and assessment will provide you with the necessary qualification to apply for a licence.
Licences must be applied for at an Australia Post outlet within 60 days of assessment.
They are issued by the State Regulator (Workplace Health & Safety Qld or NSW WorkCover) and are valid for five years.

 

 

Intermediate Rigging
