Conduct backhoe / loader operations

 

Course Description: 

This unit covers the conducting backhoe/loader operations in the civil construction industry. It includes: planning and preparing; conducting machine pre-operational checks; operating backhoe/ loaders; lifting, carrying and placing materials; selecting, removing and fitting attachments; relocating the backhoe/ loaders; carrying out machine operator maintenance; and cleaning up.

 

This is what is required if you wish to obtain a Backhoe competency:

1. If you have not already done so, register with Logisafe. Register Here

2. Use the 'Book Online' button to apply for training. You can select multiple machines to be trained and assessed on.

3. We will send an invoice. Once this is paid, training arrangements will be made, either:

  • Attend a 1-day classroom-based training session and machine induction (recommended for new operators), or
  • If you can provide evidence of current or previous use of this type of machine (eg Employer's letter, logbook etc), theory training material can be provided for you to work through in your own time - Study the Training Notes and complete the theory exercises - please contact us during office hours If you require assistance.

4. The one theory assessment covers all of the listed machines. Once you have satisfactorily completed the theory assessment you have three (3) months to complete all performance assessments.

  • Part A needs to be completed for all machines.
  • Part B covers excavator, bobcat, backhoe &/or loader for their lifting capabilities.

5. Complete the nominal hours of supervised operation and record these in the Logbook provided, or provide evidence of machine use (as above).

6. Complete performance assessment(s) for the type(s) of machinery selected.

Trainees MUST BE AGED 18+ YEARS to undertake the practical assessment.

Award:

Successful trainees will receive a Statement of Attainment issued within seven (7) days of assessment.

Wallet-sized photo ID cards are also available.
